Traffic information Costa del Sol

Traffic information Costa del Sol

This article is interesting for those travelling on the Costa del Sol Spain, the traffic information Costa de Sol is in general smooth also depending the time of the year and the time of the day. Later in this document I will supply you with 2 different links and a map, this gives you an 24 hours updated overview of traffic interuptions, traffic jams, roadworks and radar spots.

Some more information about the traffic situation on the Costa del Sol. Malaga capital has in general no problems with the traffic flow. Around Malaga airport there are no problems because the new perfectly builded roads in 2015 around the airport are fantastic to drive.  Heading to the west of the Costa del Sol up to the split AP7 and A7 at Fuengirola (exit number 214) the traffic flow is in general fine, because the 3 lanes roads at Torremolinos and Benalmadena. In Fuengirola you will face some high traffic at exit 212, exit 211 and exit 210, this in the morning between 08:00 and 10:00. Because the exit lanes are not long enough the cars are driving on 3 lanes where there were build for 2 lanes. Further on to Marbella, between KM 204 and Km 197 you will find speed camaras, you need to drive 80 KM per hour for 5 KM if you not want facing a fine. Particulary this piece of A7 is a problem especially when there is a car accident or roadworks. The traffic jam here will be more then 10 KM sometimes up to Marbella La Cañada. So check the link which I will supply later before you step in the car. Further to Marbella, high traffic from Calahonda to Marbella La Cañada in the peek hours, then at Puerto Banus before the San Pedro de Alcántara tunnel in the summer everyday traffic jams. Up to Estepona the traffic flow is fine and from Estepona to Sotogrande you will raryly face proplems.

  1. This traffic information map is supplied by the DGT, direción General de trafico. So here is the link, check it out before you start driving.
  2. Google has a great traffic overview as well and it is faster then the DGT one, check out this link. I personally like the Google traffic information more, because they use different colors, if the road on the map colored orange or red color instead of green, that means there is a traffic jam.
